  Chemical Transportation
National Chemical Carriers (NCC) was formed in 1990 as Limited L.iability Company, 80% owned by NSCSA and 20% by SABIC with a capital of SAR 200 millions which was increased to SAR 500 millions in 1992. NCC was set up to primarily engage in purchasing, chartering and operating of Chemical tankers for the transportation of Chemicals and other related products.

In 2003, NCC signed an agreement with Hyundai Mipo, Korea for building six new vessels of 46,000 dwt at a cost of SR 736 million as a part of its strategy to upgrade and increase the fleet, expand its operation through long & short term chartering. These vessels were charted to International Shipping and Transport Co Ltd. "ISTC", an affiliate of SABIC through a long term charter contract. During 2004, another agreement was signed with Hyundai Mipo to construct additional four vessels costing SR 623 million, of which one was later chartered out to SIPCHEM on long term basis.

During 2005, NCC commenced its activity regarding IPO process and increased its capital to SAR 610 million in 2006. In line with its growth strategy, the company also ordered 16 vessels in 2006/2007 from SLS Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. of 45,000 dwt for delivery in 2010 - 2012 at a cost of more than SR 3,000 million. However, 2 vessels are cancelled in May 2010 due to delay by (SLS) to deliver tankers on the dates agreed in the contract.

Further, in February 2009, the company also entered into an agreement with Odfjell to bare-boat charter three stainless steel parcel tankers for a period of ten years with purchase options after 3 years. The ships will continue to be operated by Odfjell Tankers.

In June 2009, NCC signed a 50:50 joint venture with Odfjell of Norway to establish an operating company in Dubai to commercially operate their combined fleet of coated chemical tankers in a pool. This will re-enforce NCC position as a major player in the chemical transportation industry. The JV came into effect from 1st January, 2010.

On 4th July, 2010 the company signed a contract with Daewoo Shipping and Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. (DSME) to build a specialized chemical tanker of 75,000 DWT expected to be delivered during 2013.

NCC has proved to be an extremely profitable venture, and has grown steadily over the years. Presently, it is one of the largest companies of the world serving over 150 ports worldwide. The company presently owns 13 vessels in operation and 15 vessels on order.
